Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

On Tuesday we were visited by Ofsted inspector Helen Rai. Thank you to all parents who took the time to complete the online parent view survey - Ofsted will take these into account when they draw up our report which will be available 15 days after the inspection. Thank you also to parents who took the time to speak directly with the inspector. The children were a true credit to St. Edward’s and I wish to commend them on their excellent behaviour and conduct.

The school gates open at 8:40am in the morning and staff are only on duty at the gate entrances and in the playground from this time. For safety reasons, please do not leave children unattended without adult supervision outside the school. Thank you.

This week we joined the parish of Our Lady’s for a welcoming Mass on Tuesday. We gathered together to give thanks for our safe return from the holidays and to ask for God’s guidance through the new school year. Thank you to Fr. Jeff for a lovely Mass.

Our close links with Lord’s Cricket is ongoing - our children have benefited from many events and opportunities provided by Lord’s. This week class 12 were very fortunate to visit the cricket ground for the launch of the Cricket World Cup Schools Programme which will aim to engage over 700,000 school children across England and Wales in conjunction with Chance to Shine. We are fortunate to be part of such an exciting venture.

Today we hosted our Macmillan Coffee afternoon for parents and staff and children enjoyed a cake sale after school. All funds raised will go directly to Macmillan Cancer Support - an organisation that do invaluable work to help and support those battling cancer. I am overwhelmed at the generosity of our community - the delicious cakes and support received for this worthy cause has been incredible. Thank you to everyone who donated cake or joined us this afternoon and especially a big thank you to our PTA for organising the event.

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

Miss Clare O’Connor

Notices and Reminders

Class 11’s Assembly

Yesterday it was the turn of Class 11 to show off their skills in assembly.  We were transported to the studios of 'The ONE and only Class 11 SHOW' where presenters asked children about what they had learnt in their RE lessons.  The theme was  qualities and talents that God has given us. Children shared poems and information about Maximilian Kolbe, who used his qualities of love and sacrifice to save a man's life.  Children acted out role play as peace makers and shared the words that Paul had written in the Bible.  We were then treated to a  'Class 11's got Talent' where  gymnastics singing and football skills were performed.  The assembly culminated in  a rousing rendition of Katy Perry's 'Firework'. After that it was obvious that Class 11 are a talented bunch!

Westminster Tag Rugby

On Wednesday our Year 5 & 6 rugby team participated in the annual Westminster Tag Rugby competition. We did extremely well winning all our group stages out of 16 schools, progressing into the finals. Our team only conceded once and that was in the final losing 1-0 to St. Vincent’s. The children worked very hard and were very respectful to the other teams and organisers. They are looking forward to their next competition and challenge! Thank you to Mr Abbas for coaching the team.

Semi Final: St. Edward’s 2 - 0 St. Mary Magdalen

Final: St. Edward’s 0 - 1 St. Vincennt’s
