HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

Welcome back to the start of a new school year and a special welcome to all of the new families that have joined us; we look forward to getting to know you and your children during your time at St. Edward’s.

Our new soft start to the school day has been very successful for the children as they have been benefiting from a purposeful start to their mornings.  I wish to thank our parents for their support and co-operation in helping us implement this new procedure.  Staff will be on the pavement from Monday morning to help with the transition and EYFS parents will continue to enter through the small gate throughout the year.

I do just wish to take the opportunity to remind our families that we must please be aware of and considerate to those who live in our local community by not creating too much congestion in the area around the school.  If your children use scooters/bikes on the commute to and from school, I ask that they please be extra considerate to other pedestrians and local residents.

Congratulations to our school council who worked hard last year to receive funding for our "Green Screen".   The installation will be completed this week and we know that the children will benefit from the reduced air pollution and greater security in the playground.  Thank you to Westminster City Council for funding this project.

Our new school caters, Principals have been cooking some delicious meals for our children and staff.  The new menu can be found below.  The cost of a school meal has remained the same at £1.90 per day and this is payable via ParentPay.  Please do inform the school office in advance of any changes from school meals to packed lunch or vice versa.  A reminder to parents of children who have progressed into year 3, school meals have to be paid for unless you are in receipt of Free School Meals.  If you wish to apply for free school meals please visit the Westminster City Council website for more information and forms are obtainable from the school office.  Children are welcome to try out our new menu for a week at a time, without having to commit to a term.  A taster afternoon will be scheduled for parents in the near future.

Pupil data collection forms will be sent out for all children next week.  Please take the time to read through them and amend or add any information as necessary so that we can update our school records.  It is vitally important that the school holds up to date contact information and medical information for all children. Once completed, please return to the school office along with the free school meal application. I appreciate your assistance with this. All forms must be returned to school by Friday 21st September.  If your forms are returned by the 21st, your child will receive a free St. Edward's school cap.

After school club letters have been sent home.  Please follow the booking instructions and keep a note of the dates that the clubs are running.  There has been a change to the Art Club (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) start date - the first session will now be on Tuesday 18th September and not the 11th September and the cost will be £20.  Apologies for any inconvenience caused.  Unfortunately, due to an issue with the providers, you will not be able to sign up for kwik cricket and dodgeball this week.  We are looking at an alternate provider and will let you know as soon as it has been arranged.

Curriculum parent meeting details can be found below in the Dates for your Diary section. These are an opportunity to see what your child will be learning in school for the next term and also a chance to meet your child's class teacher.  I hope you will be able to attend.

On Thursday 13th September from 9:00-9:30 am class teachers will be hosting a Parent Reading Morning.  Parents are invited into their child's classroom to read with their child, and see their child's new classroom. We look forward to seeing you there.

Our year 5 children will be going swimming this term - class 11 on Mondays and class 12 on Tuesdays.  This is a fantastic opportunity for children to develop confidence in the water in a safe and professionally supervised environment.  Please make sure that your child has the full and correct swimming kit in school on the day.  Swimming is a compulsory and children will only be excused with a valid doctor's note.

Parents of Year 6 pupils need to have their secondary school applications submitted via eAdmissions by October 31st.  Please see your Local Authority website for information on secondary schools and details on how to complete your application.

Mrs Moon and I value your continued support, and look forward to an exciting and successful year ahead.

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

Miss Clare O’Connor
