FRIDAY 14th SEPTEMBER - Issue 78

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

At this morning’s assembly I had the pleasure of announcing our student leadership team, house captains, monitors and school council - please see below. They have been elected by their peers to represent them and their views. I am confident that they will excel in their roles and rise to the challenge of their new responsibilities. I look forward to working together with them in developing opportunities for our whole school.

It was lovely to see so many of our parents at the reading morning yesterday. This was a perfect opportunity to read a good story together. Reading opens up a world of imagination and possibilities and it is important that we encourage a love of reading in our children - so thank you for joining us.

I wish to remind parents of the procedures that need to be followed with regards to reporting an absence and medication:

  • Absence - phone the school on 02077235911 to report your child’s absence. You must phone the school each day that your child is absent. Some pupils travel to school on their own so it is important that we know which pupils to expect each day.  If your child is absent for 3 days or more you may be asked to provide a doctor’s note to substantiate the absence.

  • Medication -  school staff can only administer medicine that has been prescribed by a doctor, is in date and submitted with a completed Medication Consent Form (available from the reception office).  Please do not send children to school with medicine i.e. paracetamol/ibuprofen in their school bags.

Pupil data collection forms were sent home this week.  Thank you if you have already completed and returned them to school. If not, please take the time to read through them and amend or add any information as necessary so that we can update our school records.  It is vitally important that the school holds up to date contact information and medical information for all children. Once completed, please return to the school office along with the free school meal application. I appreciate your assistance with this. All forms must be returned to school by Friday 21st September.  If all your forms (including the free school meal form) are returned by the 21st, your child will receive a free St. Edward's school cap.

Parents of Year 6 pupils need to have their secondary school applications submitted via eAdmissions by October 31st.  Please see your Local Authority website for information on secondary schools and details on how to complete your application. If there are any year 6 parents who have not met with Miss O’Connor to discuss their application, please contact Mrs Gashi to arrange a convenient time.

If your child was born between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015, he or she will be starting reception in primary school from September 2019.  The eAdmissions website is open for you to start your online application. You will need to submit your application by the 15 January 2019.   You can find more information here.

If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016, they will be eligible to start Nursery in September 2019. Please collect a form from the school office or visit our admissions page to download a form and read our school admission policy.

Piano Lessons - while all spaces are currently full, please inform the school office if you are interested in your child receiving piano tuition in school during class time at a cost of £10/half hour. This will enable us to assess the demand to enable future provision.

Our Chess club providers have had to move the club from a Tuesday to a Thursday. If anyone is already enrolled in Chess club and can not attend on a Thursday, please let the school office or Miss Bradley know and a full refund will be arranged.

Year 5 children are having swimming lessons for PE this term at Moberley and both boys and girls are required to wear swimming caps. Moberley have kindly made an offer of discounted swimming caps at a cost of £1.50. If your child is still needing a cap, please send them with £1.50 to take to their next swimming lesson (Monday - class 12 and Tuesday - class 11).

On Monday our year 6 children are setting off on their 3 day residential trip to Sayers Croft. This will be an amazing time for them - full of adventures and new experiences. We wish them a safe and happy stay!

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

Miss Clare O’Connor
