Friday 20th April - Issue 64

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

Welcome back - I trust all our families had a safe and peaceful Easter break!  It is good to see all our children ready for the last term of this year - there is lots of learning to do and some very fun activities too!  There are some important dates below so please make a note of these in your diaries.

The first PTA meeting of the new term will be on Wednesday 2nd May. The object of our PTA is to advance the education of our pupils at school in the following ways:

  • By developing effective relationships between the staff, parents, and others associated with the school;
  • By engaging in events and providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils.
  • Helping ensure that the children have fun and enjoy their time at St. Edward's through social events and other PTA sponsored activities.

All parents, carers, guardians and staff are automatically members of St. Edward's PTA and everyone is welcome to attend meetings. Please don't be shy, we would love to see you there!

This term our year 3 children will be having swimming lessons at the Jubilee Sports Centre.  They will travel there by coach accompanied by qualified and expereinced swimming instructors.  Swimming lessons are a compulsory element of the school curriculum and offers an ideal opportunity for children to gain confidence in the water, developing an important life skill in a safe environment.  The lessons for year 3 children start on Monday 23rd April - please make sure children have their swimming kit in school.

After what felt like a very long winter, the weather is finally warming up!  I want all children to be able to enjoy the lovely weather safely, so please remember to apply sunscreen in the morning (children may bring some in to school to reapply themselves if necessary), a sun hat that offers suitable protection and a bottle of water.  Please click here for a reminder of the correct summer uniform.

I have noticed that some girls are wearing hoop earrings or large studs.  For health and safety reasons only small stud earrings may be worn.

St. Edward's will be hosting a 'Out and About' Learning Unlimited course in conjunction with WAES for parents.  Please see further details below.

Have a lovely weekend!

Best wishes,

Miss C O'Connor

Year 5 Floating Classroom Project

Over the Easter holidays, Year 5 students have been very busy learning about canal boats.  Students researched the purposes of the boats and designed and created their own canal boat models and posters. They are very prepared to extend their learning with their Floating Classroom project during the Summer Term.

Greenhouse Centre

Children from year 4 and 5 visited the newly opened Greenhouse Centre in Cosway Street for a afternoon of table tennis fun!  There is more information about the centre below.
