Dear Parents, Carers and Children,
We are half way through the academic year already and this week has been a busy end to the half term. On Tuesday we celebrated Safer Internet Day with assemblies and classroom activities. Children were given advice on how to use the internet responsibly and safely. Please talk to your children at home about what they have learned and discuss how the whole family can stay safe on the internet. On Wednesday we had 'Car Free Day' and it was good to see so many of our families give up their cars for the school commute and walk, cycle or scooter instead! Dr Bike was in school to check over the children's bicycles and representatives from Sustrans held workshops in classes. The message we all learnt was that small changes to our daily routine can have a big and positive impact on our environment!
The upcoming half term promises to be a busy one too with many exciting events and learning opportunities planned. Please have a look at the 'Dates for Your Diary' section. One event that we all enjoy at St. Edward's is World Book Day. This will be happening on the 1st March and children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. I am looking forward to seeing all the colourful and imaginative costumes! Please also see our term dates for 2018/2019 academic year below.
After a very successful and active NSPCC Number Day, we are delighted to announce that we raised £225. A huge thank you to pupils and staff for their hard work and enthusiasm. Mr Foudy took a long time to consider all the different activities that children carried out, and decided to award number sweets to Class 3 from FS/KS1 and Classes 7 and 8 (Year 3) from KS2 for their imaginative and enthusiastic ideas for Number Day. Well done to those classes and to everyone who took part.
Parents' Evenings are taking place on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st February. Thank you to all parents who have booked their slots with class teachers. There are still a number of parents who have not made appointments - please do so at your earliest convenience at stedwards.parentseveningsystem. These meetings are important as they provide an opportunity to see how your child is progressing in class and to have a look at their books.
A gentle reminder that we are a nut free school so packed lunches and after school snacks must not contain any nuts/nut products of any kind. This includes nutella and peanut butter. We have a number of children with nut allergies in school and the safety of all children is paramount and I appreciate your consideration in this matter.
There was a total of 108 lates this week. This is still very high and punctuality is a problem. Children should be in the school playground before 8:55 ready for the bell to ring and seated in class ready to learn by 9:00am. School reopens on Monday 19th February, I look forward to seeing you in the playground before 8:55am.
Thank you for your continued support. I wish you all a happy and safe half term break.
Miss C O'Connor

Well done to class 4 and class 12 on winning the attendance cups this week!
There were a total of 108 lates this week. I am disappointed as this is still far too many lates. Punctuality is becoming a problem. Children should be in the school playground before 8:55 ready for the bell to ring and seated in class ready to learn by 9:00am. Children should not be arriving at school at this time. It is essential that children attend school punctually if they are to achieve their potential. Lateness not only adversely affects a child's attainment but also their personal and social skills and makes it difficult for them to settle for the day. They are also missing valuable learning time. Lessons start promptly and when children arrive late in the classroom it becomes disruptive. Punctuality is an important life skill so please help your child with this.
CLASS 13 WIN SAFER INTERNET DAY COMPETITION
NOTICES AND REMINDERS
Class 7's Assembly
On Thursday Class 7 were able to talk to the whole school with their class assembly. They talked about the duty that Christian people have to share with others, things they had learnt about in their RE topic and that we all need to remember as we start the season of Lent and our giving to the charity Mary's Meals.
Class 7 finished by singing "When I needed a neighbour" which reminds us that we are neighbours with the whole world and we need to be looking out for them.
Thank you class 7! That was a beautiful assembly!
Safer Internet Day
Class 4 shared their Safer Internet Day activity: We followed the adventures of Smartie the Penguin and helped him stay safe on the internet. We then made Smartie paper roll crafts and taught each other how to stay safe online!
On Tuesday, our year 6 and 5 girls' football team took part in a tournament and we had the greatest time we could ever ask for! We had a very successful time as we made the finals! We worked really well together as a team, encouraging each other. We wish to thank our parents for their help and support and also Mr Abbas for giving us the opportunity to play against other Westminster schools. We are all looking forward to our next tournamant! Well done More! They are the house cup winners this week!
