HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

Happy St. Edward’s day! 13th October is the Feast of St. Edward, our school’s patron saint, and so our usual Friday achievement assembly was replaced with an assembly celebrating this special feast. We learnt some facts about Edward the Confessor’s life and his achievements as the King of England. Why not take a trip to Westminster Abbey to visit his shrine, and find out more about him?

You may have noticed the Coram Life Bus in our school car park this week on it’s annual visit to our school. All classes have enjoyed their time with Sarah and Harold the giraffe in the mobile classroom and they have been learning about the human body - how to keep safe and healthy - all in an engaging, interactive environment. Thank you to all parents who attended the parent session on Wednesday - we had a good turn out and Sarah enjoyed having you aboard the bus. We love having Sarah and Harold visit us and look forward to seeing them again next year!

Our whole school attendance this week is an impressive 97.4%. Let’s aim to keep this up all year. Children achieve better when they go to school all day, every day. They learn better, make friends and are happier. Missing school means missing out!

A reminder to our Year 6 parents that the deadline for secondary school applications is fast approaching. Please make sure that your online application is submitted by the 31st October via eAdmissions. Parents who are needing further advice or support please make an appointment to see me through Mrs Gashi.

Please note that the week of the 22nd October is half term break. Children return to school on Monday 29th October. See below for information on half term activities in the local area.

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

Miss Clare O’Connor

HAPPINESS

Dear Lord Jesus, may our family be rich in love and filled with the happiness which comes from serving you and others. Amen.

NOTICES AND REMINDERS

CLASS 10’S ASSEMBLY

Class 10 have been tracing Jesus’ family tree.  It is easy to forget that Jesus had a family just like us and it was interesting to see who was a part of Jesus’ ancestry.  Class 10 reminded us that we are all part of God’s family too and that when we are kind to others, they are kind to us.  Class 10 finished their assembly with a catchy song ‘Count on Me’ which got us all singing along!   Well done, class 10!

Coram Life Bus

Coram Life Education is the leading provider of health and wellbeing education to almost half a million children across the UK. ‘Helping Children Make Healthy Choices’ is the underlying message of the interactive and creative sessions delivered by Sarah and Harold the Giraffe on the Life Bus.

You will need to submit your application by the 15 January 2019.   You can find more information here.

If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016, they will be eligible to start Nursery in September 2019. Please collect a form from the school office or visit our admissions page to download a form and read our school admission policy.

Art Club

I look forward to our weekly Art Club update as I am always very impressed by the artistic skill displayed by our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children. The most important aspect is that they gain a sense of achievement out out of doing such a fun activity. This week they were finger painting different designs.

SPORT

Westminster Hockey Tournament

On Tuesday a group of children participated in a hockey tournament. We had a great time and enjoyed ourselves. The more we played the more we understood the game and became better at it! Although it was fun, it was also quite challenging. As a team we would like to thank Mrs Tan and Mr Abbas for taking us to Paddington Recreation, for encouraging us in our game and for treating us to an ice cream! We had a great time and look forward to doing it again in the future.

Below is a letter from the Safer Westminster Partnership of the City Council and Metropolitan Police Service to parents regarding the build up to Halloween and Bonfire Night.

ST. EDWARD’S PTA

All parents are automatically part of the St. Edward’s PTA and there are many opportunities for everyone to get involved .

Did you know that whenever you buy anything online you could be raising a free donation for St. Edward’s Catholic Primary School PTA? There are over 3,100 shops and sites on board ready to make a donation when you shop with them, including Amazon, John Lewis and Sainsbury's and it doesn't cost you a penny extra!

To get started, all you have to do is:

  1. Join.
Head to easyfundraising, search for St Edwards RC Primary School PTA - London and sign up for free.

  2. Shop.
Every time you shop online, go to easyfundraising first, pick the retailer you want and start shopping.

  3. Raise.
After you've checked out, that retailer will make a donation to us and it won't cost you a penny extra!

Please help us by giving more than a gift - there are no catches or hidden charges and St Edwards CATHOLIC Primary School PTA  will be really grateful for your donations.

Here are some of our PTA’s upcoming events:

Thursday 15th November: PTA cake sale for the whole school 3:30 pm-4:30 pm. All welcome.

Our ever popular ‘World on a Plate’ event will be happening in the Spring Term so please keep a look out for further information closer to the time.
