HEADTEACHER’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent. We will light the first Advent candle, as a symbol of the hope we have in Jesus. Advent is a special time in the Church year marked with a spirit of expectation and preparation for the coming of Christ into our lives. At school we are starting our preparation with a special Advent Mass for KS2 on Monday 10th December at Our Lady’s, Lisson Grove at 10:00am.  Parents of children in years 3 - 6 are welcome to join us there or may walk with us from school. Our children have also been very busy preparing for their Nativity productions - please see below for dates and times.

Today I had the pleasure of attending the Westminster Winter Windows in Leicester Square along with children from St. Edward’s to see their work on display. This year’s theme is ‘Christmas Carols’ and I am so proud of the impressive art produced by our children. It is well worth a visit, so if you get a chance this Christmas take a trip to Leicester Square and have a look for yourself. Below are some lovely pictures of our afternoon.

Our PTA will be selling delicious edible Christmas goodies every Friday in the run up to Christmas priced from £1. Please keep a look out for them in the playground after school. Your support is greatly appreciated.

On Friday 14th December we will be joining thousands of other people across the UK by wearing our Christmas jumpers to school. Please bring a £1 and have some festive fun - all donations will be going to ‘Save the Children’ who help children all around the world to have a better future.

Is not too late to book a seat at our PTA’s Christmas pantomime ‘Beauty and the Beast’ happening on the 18th December 3:30 - 4:30pm. This promises to be an entertaining afternoon for our children. Please return slip and payment to the school office as soon as possible.

Reception and Nursery Admissions September 2019 - If your child was born between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015, he or she will be starting reception in primary school from September 2019.  The eAdmissions website is open for you to start your online application. You will need to submit your application by the 15 January 2019.   You can find more information here. If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016, they will be eligible to start Nursery in September 2019. Please collect a form from the school office or visit our admissions page to download a form and read our school admission policy.

Prospective parents of children looking to join St. Edward’s in September for Nursery and Reception are invited to visit our school on the following days: Tuesday 4th December 9:30 - 10:30am, Friday 11th January 9:30 - 10:30am. NOTICES AND REMINDERS

Westminster Winter Windows

9th November - 5th January 2019: Come and see Westminster's Winter Windows! Designed by pupils from schools throughout Westminster, the windows form a magical pathway around Leicester Square. Each window is designed by a budding young artist from a local school.

Class 3 and 4 visit the Victoria & Albert Museum of Childhood

This past week or Year 1 and Year 2 classes went on a field trip to the V&A Museum of Childhood. This was in line with our recent learning about the history of old toys and books. We've looked closely at how books and toys change through the decades. The children really enjoyed looking at all the exhibits and finding toys that were similar to what they had at home. Everyone was fascinated by the massive doll house village as it was a sight to behold! The teachers and Mrs. Moon who attended the year 1 trip were extremely pleased with the behaviour of the children. We were all great representatives of St.Edward's Catholic Primary School. We look forward to more exciting trips in the future.

Year 5 enjoy a visit to the Science Museum

Last Friday, year 5 had a wonderful trip to the Science Museum. They learned all about forces by attending a fantastic interactive lecture featuring Dwayne and Phil the Frog! They also ventured into the Space exhibit to complete a space quiz. Fun was had by all and year 5 are eagerly looking forward to their next trip.

OUR RE CORNER

ad.jpg

This week in Year 6 we have started our new RE topic, ‘Advent’. We have been thinking about what the word ‘expectation’ means and answered the following question, why should we have realistic expectations of ourselves and others? As a class we discussed the importance of not letting others down and achieving realistic goals.

We thought about our own expectations of Jesus and how he lived up to them. Over the next few weeks we will be looking at the expectations placed upon Mary and John the Baptist and thinking about our own hopes and wishes in the lead up to Christmas.
