Dear Parents, Carers and Children,
This Sunday we celebrate the Third Sunday of Advent in which the gospel calls us to prepare for the coming of Jesus by showing mercy. By doing things out of love and care for others all year round and not just at Christmas, we help make the world a better place.
I am sad to announce that some of our long term staff will be leaving us at the end of this term. I would like to thank Mrs Boggis, Mrs Jones, Mrs O’Sullivan and Mrs Reeves for all their many years of dedicated and loving service to the families, staff and governors of St. Edward’s. They have cared for and shown kindness to so many of our children over the years and all of the St. Edward’s community will sorely miss them. I know you will join me in wishing them the best of luck for the future.
As you are aware, after our most recent Ofsted inspection, the school’s overall effectiveness grade remained ‘good’. Yesterday, the primary school league tables were released, which are based on the school’s performance data attainment and progress for 2017/2018. Our attainment at the end of KS2 in Reading, Writing and Maths at the expected level and at greater depth are in line or above the average in Westminster and nationally. Our area for development and school priority for this year is to continue to improve upon progress measures, which look at the progress children make from the end of KS1 to the end of KS2. Our aim remains to ensure that all our children reach their full potential.
On Tuesday it was our KS1 children’s chance to shine! Their Christmas production was a delight to watch and thoroughly enjoyed by all parents, families and friends who came along. Christmas is time of joy, hope, love and peace - a message put across so beautifully by our class 3 and 4 children. Well done! A big thank you to all KS1 staff who help put together such an impressive production.
Our KS2 children have been practising their hymns and readings for the Carol Concert which will be taking place on Monday 17th at Our Lady’s, Lisson Grove at 2:00pm . The whole St. Edward’s community is warmly invited and I look forward to seeing you there.
A reminder that pictures/videos taken at Christmas performances are for personal use only and should not be shared on social media - thank you.
Our school PTA are always working to provide opportunities for our children which support and enrich their learning. Every parent of St. Edward’s automatically becomes a member of our PTA. We have decided to appoint parent class representatives and so I am asking parents to volunteer - this will provide us with a wider network and more structured PTA organisation. If you feel that you have the time and are willing to represent your child’s class community, then please let either myself or Mrs Moon know.
Our school PTA currently has a vacancy for a Secretary. Further details of role responsibilities will be distributed soon so if you feel that you have the skills and time to offer, please let Mrs Bernice Hope know.
Apart from our Carol Service on Monday, we have a number of other activities happening next week:
Our Beauty and the Beast Pantomime will start at 3:30pm and finish at 4:30pm on Tuesday 18th. Thank you to all families who have supported our PTA in their Christmas fundraiser.
Snowmen and other delicious edible Christmas goodies will be on sale again next week Wednesday and Thursday after school in the KS2 playground - all PTA funds raised directly benefit our St. Edward’s children!
Children are invited to wear their own clothes with a Christmas Jumper to school on Wednesday 19th as the school will be enjoying a festive lunch!
School finishes at 1:30pm on Friday 21st with the Fit for Sport session running until 4:30pm. Children may wear own clothes on the last day of term.

NOTICES AND REMINDERS
KS1 Christmas Production
Here are some pictures of the wonderful KS1 Christmas Performance:
‘Save the Children’ Christmas Jumper Day
Christmas is a time for charity and today we had fun collecting money for a very worthy cause ‘Save the Children’. It is good to know that every pound donated by a St. Edward’s child will be helping other less fortunate children to a better future. Thank you once again for wearing your colourful and festive clothes and for your generosity!
Tri-Borough Christmas Festival
Class 10 performed at the Tri-Borough Christmas Festival 2018 at the Regent Hall on Thursday. They performed four Christmas songs with other schools and a live orchestra. They sang beautifully and received a standing ovation at the end! Well done Class 10!
Carol Concert at Lady of Our Rosary
On Sunday, our Year 4 children were invited to sing at the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary’s annual carol service. The children performed beautifully and were fantastic ambassadors for the school. Everyone enjoyed the celebration!
The children had so much fun decorating their festive treasure boxes with Christmas music playing and wearing their Santa hats!
OUR RE CORNER
In year 4, our topic is Gift, because God sent His son - Jesus - to us, even though he knew he would be crucified. Through this, God has shown His love to His Creation: the human and the world and the importance of loving, caring and sharing during this season.
We have also been learning about the symbols of Advent and their meanings, as well as how we celebrate the Birth of Jesus.
We learnt about the Annunciation, when the Angel Gabriel came down from Heaven and told Mary she was going to have a baby and he would be called Jesus. He would be the King of the World. through this story, we learnt to ensure we listen to God's messages and we trust him.
More are once again our house champions for the week with a whopping 852 points! Well done!
