Headteacher's message

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

I wish you all a very happy, healthy and successful New Year.  I hope that everyone had a very enjoyable Christmas holiday.  I wish to say a warm welcome back to all our families and a special welcome to the new families who have joined St. Edward's this term.  May I take this opportunity to thank our children and parents who gave myself and other members of staff cards and presents.  It was very kind and thoughtful of you all to do this and we appreciate your gifts and kind words.

We look forward to Sunday as we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord when the three wise men gave gifts to the infant Jesus.  Monday is also a special day in the Church calendar as we mark the Baptism of Jesus Christ.  At St. Edward's we will celebrate with a special Mass at the Church of Our Lady, Lisson Grove with Fr. Jeff.  Parents of year 1 to 6 children are warmly invited to join us at 10:00am.

Our Year 4 children will be starting their swimming lessons on Monday 8th January at the Jubilee Sports Centre in a safe environment with qualified swimming coaches.  Swimming is a compulsory part of the national curriculum and all children need to participate.  Please ensure your child has the correct kit with them on Mondays - swimsuit/trunks, towel and a swimming cap if needed.  If your child is unable to participate you will need to provide a doctor's note.

Last term our school choir participated in the Tri-Borough Music Hub Christmas Festival.  To see some lovely photos of this event please click here.

We have begun another busy term filled with exciting learning opportunities and I look forward to giving you information about all the events for both the children and adults that will be coming up over the next half term.  Please take time to read the newsletter every week to keep up to date with all that is going on in St. Edward's.

Please read below for some general reminders and an important message on e-safety.

I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Best wishes,

Miss C O'Connor

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for your guidance - for being there to guide our family on our journey together through life.  Amen.

We are committed to promoting the safe and responsible use of the internet and as such we feel it is our responsibility to raise this particular issue as a growing concern, due to the increase in inappropriate use of WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and other texting sites. The user agreements for all of these sites requires users to be 13 or older. There are lots of useful websites such as which you can visit to find out more about different social media sites and different apps that are available. Today Mrs Moon has sent a detailed letter out to years 4,5 and 6 parents with further information on this topic, please check your child's book bag for this. Please visit the E-safety section of our website for more information.

The after school clubs are back up and running this term.

If your child wishes to try Lemon Jelly, they are invited to attend the first session (next week) for free, to determine whether they wish to sign up for the remainder of the term of not.  Please advise Miss Bradley before Wednesday 10th January if your child wishes to do so.

Closing date for all forms is the 15th January 2018.

Applications are also invited for Nursery Class for children born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015.  The deadline for Nursery applications is the 9th February.  Please call at the school office for an application pack or click here

Parents wishing to view the school in action are welcome to attend our open morning on Tuesday 9th January at 9:30am.

It is lovely to see our children wearing their school uniform with pride and looking very smart!   I wish to remind you that a school coat with logo is now a compulsory item of school uniform. Children should be wearing full winter uniform which includes a tie and black shoes (no trainers allowed).  Please visit for purchase details.

If your child is absent it is important to follow the procedure below:

·         Parents must phone the school on 02077235911 to report their child's absence.

·         You must phone the school on each day that your child is absent.  Some pupils travel to school on their own so it is important that we know which pupils to expect each day.

·         If your child is absent for 3 days or more you may be requested to provide a doctor's note to substantiate the absence.

Holidays must not be taken during term time and where possible medical appointments need to be arranged outside of school hours.  Please click here to see our term dates.

Our dedicated team of cooks ensure that fresh, healthy food is prepared daily from scratch in our school kitchen.  Children have a wide variety of food to choose from to provide them with a balanced meal every lunchtime. The dinner menu can be viewed on the display board outside the reception office to see what dishes will be prepared on a weekly basis. The cost of a school meal is £1.90 per day or £9.50 per week.  Please pay online via ParentPay.  If you wish to change your child from school meals to packed lunch or vice versa, please inform the school office in advance.

At St. Edward's we promote healthy eating and so I ask that parents please ensure packed lunches contain a balanced lunch of healthy food and snacks.  Chocolates, any nut products and fizzy drinks are not allowed.

Physical Education is a very important part of our school curriculum and being active is essential for a child's well-being and has been linked to higher levels of concentration.  All children are expected to participate in PE and therefore I ask that parents please ensure that their children have the full and correct kit including school tracksuit.  I am advising parents to provide their children with a pair of trainers in which to do PE as plimsolls do not provide enough support for outdoor activities.  Thank you for your co-operation!

Well done to all children who received certificates at this morning's achievement assembly.  Keep up the good work!
