HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

Welcome back after the half term break! I trust all our families had a restful and enjoyable week.

On Wednesday we joined St. Joseph's to celebrate All Saints' Mass at Our Lady's Church where we said prayers and brought to mind our dearly departed.  Our children as always demonstrated excellent conduct and respectful behaviour at church.  Well done!

Year 6 children are selling poppies in the playground after school - please donate and get your poppy in time for Remembrance Day.

As the weather has turned decidedly chilly all children should now be dressed in the full winter uniform for school.  I still see children wearing coats of other colours and I wish to remind you that the official school coat is a compulsory item of uniform.  Ace Clothing have a choice of a lighter weight fleece lined waterproof coat or a heavier warmer coat.  Black schools shoes and not trainers must be worn.  Please ensure that all your child's items of clothing are clearly labelled with their name.

ParentPay activation reminder letters were sent home again at the start of the week.  A big thank you to all the families who have already activated their accounts and started using ParentPay - this is proving to be a great administrative help.  I would urge everyone to get their accounts up and running as all school trips, clubs and school meals will have to be paid via ParentPay.  The school office will no longer be accepting cash or cheque payments as of Monday 6th November.

Letters for Year 1 and 2 Art Club (Tuesday and Wednesday) and Take, Make , Create (Years 3,4,5 & 6) were sent home this week.  Places are limited so please pay on line using ParentPay at your earliest convenience.  Lemon Jelly and Twinkle Toes Dancing places need to be reserved directly with the club provider.

Nasal Flu Vaccination for years 1,2,3,and 4 will be taking place on 8th November.  The vaccination programme has been introduced to primary schools to help protect children against flu and also to protect more vulnerable friends and family by preventing the spread of flu.  Please return your child's Flu Immunisation Consent Form to the school office by Monday 6th November at the latest.  Click here for further information.

The countdown to Christmas has begun and we will soon be preparing for nativity productions and our school's Christmas Fair - please see below for the dates and times that these will be held.

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Best wishes,

Miss C O'Connor

NOTICES AND REMINDERS

Class 9's Assembly

Class 9's assembly was about values. They taught us about British values and the values of the Olympics! Their assembly made us reflect on our own values and how to apply them in our daily life!

They all knew their lines and left us with a tear in our eyes when they sang "When I grow up". Gracie sang a beautiful solo that left us speechless!

Well done class 9!

Class 7's Air Quality Project

Throughout this year Class 7 are going to be involved in an Air Quality project with the charity 'Sustrans'.  We have already had Holly visit us twice to explain about what makes air pollution and to help us monitor air quality in the local area.  This week when Holly came in we walked around the local area and completed four tasks.  We counted how many things we could see making pollution, we used an air quality monitor to measure the air pollution, we put up test tubes that will catch any air pollution and we looked for different kinds of lichen that like air pollution.  We are really looking forward to getting the results of our investigation!  Class 7

Year 4 learning through Drama!

In year 4 our children are learning about Myths and in class they recounted the myth of Perseus and Medusa through drama.  The children really enjoyed the activity and showed that our St. Edward's children are very talented!

SPORT

Westminster Netball Tournament

Our year 5 and 6 netball team competed against other Westminster schools on Thursday - this is what Amel had to say about the day:

'Today was an exciting and competitive day; it was really fun to play against the other schools.  Although it was a difficult day of netball, we made great friends with the other schools.  We also me people who we knew from our past.  When we were playing we had great support from the spectators!  St. Edward's displayed great team work and sportsmanship.  We want to say thank you to Mr Abbas, our parents and the other teams.  It was great day of netball!'
