Friday 13th October - Issue 43

HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

Today we have been celebrating the Feast of St. Edward.  Keystage 2 children celebrated Mass this afternoon in our top hall with Fr. Jeff.  I am so proud of the beautiful singing and fantastic responses from our children.  A big thank you to Tanya our pianist, Ruby and Ron Hayley our altar servers and Kimberley M, Albert, Philipp, Hugo and Princess our fantastic readers.  Well done everyone!

We are nearing the end of our first half term and it is wonderful to see how enthusiastically our children have approached their learning over the past six weeks.  Class teachers are looking forward to meeting with you to discuss your child's progress and so I hope to see all our parents at the Parents' Evenings next week.  If you have not yet booked an appointment then please do so either on line or contact the school office.

A reminder to year 6 parents that Secondary Transfer application forms need to be submitted by Tuesday 31st October.  If you need any further advice please contact the school office.

Two vacancies for parent governor has arisen in our Governing Body.  If you wish to have the opportunity to make a difference, not only for your child, but for children in years to come, then please consider applying (more information can be found on the Diocesan website).  Further details will be sent home next week.

School closes for October Half Term break next Friday 20th October.  Children will return to school on Monday 30th October.  Please ensure children are dressed in full winter uniform on their return.

Have a lovely weekend!

Best wishes,

Miss Clare O’Connor

NOTICES AND REMINDERS

Class 11's Assembly

Over the last two weeks children in class 11 have been working really hard on biographies and autobiographies in literacy.  In this week's assembly children in class 11 shared their hopes and aspirations for the future describing what they want to be when they grow up and how they can achieve their goals for the future.

Well done class 11!  I particularly enjoyed your rendition of 'Reach for the Stars'!

We would like to welcome Miss Clarke-Harding to St. Edward's.  She has joined us as our Early Help Worker and will be working with our families to improve attendance.

Art Club

This week our Art Club children started painting spooky masks for Halloween.  I am very excited to see how they turn out!

Class 7 visit the library

Last week Tuesday Class 7 were the first class to start our visits to the Church Street Library. We met Richard, one of the librarians, who read us three different stories. Some where we could even join in with the rhymes! We were also able to borrow a book each which we have brought back to school and which we are enjoying reading together.

SPORT

Hockey

'A team from year 5 and year 6 went to Paddington Recreation Ground to play in a Hampstead and Westminster Hockey tournament with other schools form Westminster.  Our team won one match, but lost the others.  Despite the defeats, we held our heads high and carried on with pride.  This was an experience I will never forget.'
