Dear Parents, Carers and Children,
We have enjoyed a busy week at St. Edward's - class 8 presented a beautiful assembly, Year 5 enjoyed a chilly visit to London Zoo, Year 6 took part in Road Safety and Awareness workshops and the fire Brigade gave our children an exciting fire fighting demonstration!
Tomorrow is Remembrance Day and this week Mr Clough delivered an assembly to KS1 to talk about why we wear poppies at this time of year and why the poppy is so symbolic. He shared with our children the importance of remembering the sacrifice made by men and woman who have suffered or given up their lives in times of war. On Monday KS2 will take part in a Remembrance Assembly. A big thank you to our year 6 children who sold poppies in the playground before and after school this week and everyone who has supported this cause - all proceeds will go to the Royal British Legion.
Christmas Raffle ticket booklets have been sent home today. Please try and sell as many as possible - all the money raised is going towards creating a our new Computing Suite. There are some great prizes up for grabs and the winning tickets will be drawn at our Christmas Fair on Wednesday the 13th December. Please return raffle ticket stubs and money to the reception office by Monday 11th December. Your support is greatly appreciated.
We will be holding a coffee morning on Wednesday 22nd November at 9:00am. If you are able to assist with our Christmas fair in any way, please come along.
I hope you have a lovely weekend!
Miss C O'Connor

NOTICES AND REMINDERS
Important Upcoming Events:
Class 8's Assembly
Our assembly covered all the things we have been learning so far in class 8 this year. We also sang a wonderful song about having the power to achieve in all our lessons if we work really hard and as a team. In class 8 we always work together as a team and help each other.
Thank you class 8 for a wonderful assembly with a very important message!
Remembrance Service in Marylebone Station
Mrs Moon and Mrs Gashi accompanied our School Council to Marylebone Station this morning to attend a Remembrance Service and to lay a wreath. They joined members of the public and the Railway Industry to pay their respects to those who have fallen and to observe a two minute silence. The beautiful wreath presented by St. Edward's was made using hand prints of our nursery and reception children.
Year 5 visit London Zoo
Class 11 & 12 had a very enjoyable trip to London Zoo. We got to see so many animals, but the highlight was seeing the tigers! We learned about different habitats and which animals live where and how animals adapt to live and survive in different environments. A trip to the zoo is not only educational, but great fun too!
Our School Council in Action!
Our School Council met on Thursday to discuss Remembrance Day, clubs at school and the Christmas Fair. They will be asking children in their class this week their views on clubs that run and ideas for clubs that should run. They will be running a stall at the Christmas Fair and have lots of ideas... though they are still secret at this stage!
Year 6 Learn about Road Safety
On Wednesday as part of Westminster City Council’s launch of the new 20mph speed limits around schools, The Riot Act visited Year 6 children and delivered a ‘Deadly Distraction’ production. The focus was on road safety and encouraged children to think about the dangers of distractions such as phones and music, identifying and coping with peer pressure and taking personal responsibility for your own actions and behaviour.
The children loved the show and workshop and learnt a valuable lesson.
Paddington Fire Brigade visits St. Edward's!
Today, the Paddington Fire Brigade came to visit us at school! They told us all about their fire engines and we learned about fire safety. We got to see the different equipment that they use and we even got to see the fire hose spray water. Finally, we got to go inside the fire engine and pretend to be real firefighters!
We learnt about the history of the fire brigade and we now understand the difference between fighting fires today and fighting fires in the 17th century!
Congratulations to the children who received achievement certificates at this morning's assembly.
A special well done to Mateusz on achieving his gold Mathletics certificate!
Luna achieved GOLD also this week and her photo will be in next weeks newsletter.
Well done Southwell on winning the house cup this week!
