Friday 17th March - Issue 23

Headteacher's Message

Dear parents, carers and children,

Once again we have enjoyed a busy week at St. Edward's!  Representatives from Westminster City Council visited the school for 'No Idling' day on Wednesday.  This scheme is being piloted at St. Edward's and hopes to raise awareness of air pollution in the local area and to encourage motorists to switch their engines off when stationary for extended periods of time.  Thank you to the parents who volunteered to help with the project and to Miss Wilson for coordinating the event.

Our school library has been installed with new furnishings and looks wonderful! Over the next few weeks we will be filling the shelves with books.  I am sure that all our children will find this a pleasant and peaceful place to enjoy a good book.  On behalf of all our staff and children, I wish to extend my sincerest gratitude to everyone who has contributed to making this refurbishment possible by supporting and donating to our various appeals and fundraisers.  A special thank you to our PTA who have worked tirelessly to organise fundraising events - without their dedication, we would not have such a great library!

Next Friday we will be hosting our annual 'World on a Plate' day from 3:00pm till 4:30pm and children may wear their national dress or colours to school.  Everyone is invited  to come and enjoy different food from around the world and it promises to be an enjoyable time!  It is not too late if you are still interested in helping out on the day - just speak to a member of our PTA or contact the school office.  Otherwise, please do come along to enjoy the event and I hope to see you there!

Have a lovely weekend!

Best wishes,

Miss O'Connor

Attendance

Attendance

Well done to class 1 (98.9%) and class 14 (98.8%) for winning the attendance cups this week!

Notices and Reminders

Class 10's assembly

In Science class 10 have been learning about electricity.  We have looked at what electricity is, how it works and the potential hazards when using electricity.  Class 10 have really enjoyed investigating scientific concepts through basic experiments such as constructing a simple electric circuit.

Thank you class 10 for sharing your knowledge with us!  We really enjoyed your assembly!

The Secret Garden

This week we were paid a visit by Image Theatre who put on a performance of the classic children's novel 'The Secret Garden' by Frances Hodgson Burnett.  Children from year 1 through to year 6 had a wonderful time watching the play and there was plenty of opportunity for audience participation!

'No Idling' Day

'On Wednesday, after doing our dream books we took a photograph for the 'No Idling' campaign.  This was so we stay healthy.  If people stop idling then our lungs won't be full of bad air, smoke or gas.  Idling is really bad for our insides, our lungs and even our hearts.'  By Brenia, class 7

'World on a Plate' Day - Friday 24th March 3:00 - 4:30pm

Our PTA invites you to join us from 3:00 - 4:30 pm for our 'world on a plate' day!  There promises to be delicious food, good company and lots of fun!  Come and be a part of the St. Edward's community and enjoy the afternoon with us!

Our PTA  is a group of eager parents who help the school by raising funds to improve our children's school life.  They have registered on easyfundraising.org.uk and we are appealing to parents to join easyfundraising and collect free donations for our PTA every time you buy something on line.  It won't cost you a penny extra so please help our PTA to raise funds.

A gentle reminder that all children should be dressed in full winter uniform.  Uniform is available to purchase from www.aceclothing.co.uk
