Friday 10th February - Issue 19

Dear parents, carers and children,

I wish to thank all our families once again for the tremendous effort that was made in raising money for the NSPCC.  The final amount was a phenomenal £2780.68!

Letters regarding Parents' Evenings (Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd February) were sent out at the start of the week.  Many of you have already booked appointment slots, but if you have not booked yet, please visit and use your log in details to book a time slot with your child's teacher.  I strongly encourage all parents to please attend as this is the ideal opportunity for you discuss your child's progress with his/her teacher and to have a look at the work that has been done in class.

Next week school is closed for half term and I hope that all our families have a happy and safe break.  Please remind your child/ren to read every day and I look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 20th February, bright and early and ready to learn!

Best wishes,

Miss O'Connor

Well done to class 4 (99.1%) and class 11 (100%) on winning the attendance cups this week!

Class 4's Assembly

Class 4 enjoyed telling everyone about what they had been learning about in Science.  We have been studying and looking at animals in our local community and we had so much fun teaching everyone what we learned.  We shared our knowledge about mini-beasts, birds, butterflies and caring for pets.  We are so excited for our butterfly kits to arrive and to watch them grow!

Thank you class 4 for a wonderful assembly.  It was lovely to see so many parents there!

Year 5 visit the Royal Albert Hall to see Amaluna

Year 5 is halfway through their Evolution Topic unit!  There was a very interesting event that we were lucky enough to attend at the Royal Albert Hall.  This was Cirque de Soleil - Amaluna!   Some of the world's best gymnasts, acrobats and others of various talents put on breathtaking displays with an artistic twist.  One of the features of the show are the many contraptions used. These include things like moving stages, trap doors, pulleys, levers and gears used to create movement.  In our classes we are going to build our own working contraptions!  This will include two visits from Rolls-Royce engineers who will be visiting our school to help the children build their contraptions. We are all very excited about what has happened so far and what is yet to come!

Shared Worship Day at St. Christina's

Last Friday St. Edward's were invited to join St. Joseph's at St. Christina's for a day of shared worship to celebrate the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, the feast day which took place on Thursday. Some of our year 4 children walked to St. Christina's and were able to join them at their work and play!  All the children designed and made their own lamp holders which were then used to decorate the church for a special celebration of Mass.

Regents Park and Canal Walk

Year 2 went on a guided walk to the canal and Regents Park as part of our learning about habitats.  We looked at all the local wildlife and played some fun wildlife games!  In literacy we have been writing recounts about our trip.

Safer Internet Day

Tuesday was Safer Internet Day and we all learned about how to keep safe online!

Drucilla, cl 13:  This week we celebrated Safer Internet Day.  In class 13 we performed a play script about being safe on the internet, we then discussed the dangers of talking to someone online who we didn't know and how people's feelings can be hurt by what is posted online.

Manuela, cl 11:   Put your social media on private settings so that you are only sharing photos or videos with people you know.  Don't post photos of your birthday and your age.  Don't let strangers follow you on social media.

A big well done to our boys' and girls' football teams who both competed in the year 5 & 6 Westminster Football Tournament over the past two Wednesdays.  The girls did extremely well as they only lost 1 match and won or drew the rest.   Thank you to Mr Abbas for coaching the teams and the parents who came along to support our teams!

Congratulations to the children who received achievement certificates at this morning's achievement assembly!
