MESSAGE FROM THE GOVERNORS

Dear Parents,

The Governors are delighted to inform you that Miss O'Connor, who has been Acting Headteacher, has now been appointed permanent Headteacher of St. Edward's after a stringent assessment process involving external candidates.  We are sure you will join us in wishing her every success in her role and offering her your continued support and cooperation in continuing to move the school forward.

We wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas and look forward to seeing you at the KS1 and KS2 Christmas celebrations.

Best wishes,

Mena Rego

Chair of Governors

HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE

Dear parents, carers and children,

We are now approaching the second Sunday of Advent and in the Gospel readings we hear John the Baptist reminding people to repent and to prepare for Christ's arrival.  This important message is that at the heart of Advent as it is a time for us to think of how we can prepare ourselves for the feast of the birth of Jesus. We can prepare by giving thanks to God, saying a prayer each time you open a window on your Advent calendar, by making a special effort to consider other people's needs and by giving to charity.

We were also treated to  a wonderful Nativity performance by our Nursery and Reception class children.  Everyone who saw the play were impressed at the way in which our youngest children could perform and sing so brilliantly.  Well done to the children and staff of these classes!  Thank you to to all the families and friends who were able to attend and enjoy the show.

We now look forward to the performances of Year 1 & 2 and our KS2 Carol Service.  All parents and families are warmly invited to attend.  Please see below for dates and times.

In the past couple of weeks we have seen quite a few children absent from school with the winter vomiting bug.  Unfortunately sickness is more prevalent at this time of year and so I ask that if your child has experienced vomiting or diarrhoea, to please keep them home for 48 hours after their last episode of sickness.  This will help limit the bug spreading.  Please remind your children of the importance of effective hand washing before eating and after visiting the toilet.

The temperature is dropping and the weather has turned decidedly chilly so please ensure that your child wears their school coat and brings a hat, gloves and scarf to school.  I also ask that your child has the full winter PE kit in school which includes the tracksuit top and bottoms.

This week has been assessment week and I wish to say a big well done and thank you to our children for trying their best and working so hard!

I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Best wishes,

Clare O'Connor

NOTICES AND REMINDERS

Christmas Fair

A very big thank you to all our PTA parents who have worked so hard organising our Christmas Fair which is being held this afternoon.  I am also very grateful to all our families who have so generously donated items for the fair and sold raffle tickets.   I am sure everyone will enjoy the event and the money raised will go towards our new school library which will benefit all our children for years to come.

Winter Vomiting Bug

We, along with other schools, have experienced very high volumes of sickness due to the winter vomiting bug over the past couple of weeks.  I wish to assure parents that we are doing our best to limit the virus spreading.  We are sending sick children home and advising parents to keep their children home for 48 hours after their last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea.  Our school cleaners are continuously cleaning and sanitising all areas of our school to ensure our children's environment is hygienic.

The NHS Choices website has more information on symptoms, treatment and advice regarding the winter vomiting bug.

Year 6 visit to Westminster Cathedral

On Wednesday 7th December our year 6 children will visit Westminster Cathedral to attend a Christmas Carol Concert.  This will be attended by schools from across the Westminster Diocese and will help raise money for the Catholic Children's Society.
