Friday 18th November - Issue 10

HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE

Dear parents, carers and children,

As we approach the beginning of Advent, our children (and staff) have been busily preparing for their various Christmas Plays and Carol Services which serves as a reminder of God's great love for us. Please make a note of the date of your child's Christmas Play/Carol Service and I hope to see you there.

It was lovely to see so many children participate in own clothes day and I must say they all looked very smart.  Thank you for the many generous donations for our Christmas Tombola! Next Friday we will be having another own clothes day and children are asked to bring in a donation for their class hamper.  You will find a list below of each class and the theme of their hamper.   The PTA will also be setting up a donations table for toys, children's books and other donations in the playground before and after school where parents and children will be able to drop off any donations for our Christmas Fair.  A quick reminder to please return your sold raffle ticket stubs and monies and any unsold tickets to the school office.  Thank you for the great response we've had so far.

Year 1, 2 and 3 children will be having the Nasal Flu Vaccine on Monday.  If you have not returned the consent form, please do so on Monday morning even if you do not want your child to receive the vaccine.

I hope you enjoy this week's newsletter with all the photos of the outings and activities children have enjoyed this week.

Have a good weekend!

Best wishes,

Miss O'Connor

NOTICES AND REMINDERS

Class 9's Assembly

Class 9 presented a wonderful assembly all about their Latin studies.  Learning Latin has been shown to help improve children with their English language skills.  Class 9 even sang us a song in Latin called 'Gaudete' which they had learnt off by heart!  We were very impressed!  We can see that learning Latin is very interesting. Well done on a brilliant assembly and a big thank you to all parents who attended.

Year 3 visit the Synagogue

On Thursday year 3 were able to visit the Liberal Jewish Synagogue as part of their topic of Judaism.  They were able to impress the Rabbi with all the things they knew you could find in a synagogue, and learnt even more about how the synagogue is used.  They even got to open the ark and see the Torah!

Lord's Take Over Day

Year 5 and Class 7 were tourists on a very special tour of Lords on Friday.  Class 8 were our tour guides complete with green blazers!  They showed us around the Pavilion, the dressing room and the museum where we got to see the Ashes!  It was really interesting to learn about Lords.

Absences from School

Unfortunately it is that time of year when people are falling ill with 'winter bugs'.  I wish to remind parents that children who have had vomiting or diarrhea should be clear for 48 hours before they return to school.  I appreciate your co-operation as this will help limit any tummy bugs from spreading.  The NHS website provides further guidance on when you should keep your child home and when to seek medical advice.

If your child is absent it is important to follow the procedure below:

  • Parents must phone the school on 02077235911 to report their child's absence.
  • You must phone the school on each day that your child is absent.  Some pupils travel to school on their own so it is important that we know which pupils to expect each day.
  • If your child is absent for 3 days or more you may be asked to provide a doctor's note to substantiate the absence.  Failure to provide any sort of note may result in the absence being unauthorised.

PLEASE NOTE THAT HOLIDAYS MUST NOT BE TAKEN DURING TERM TIME AND WHERE POSSIBLE MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS NEED TO BE ARRANGED OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL HOURS.  Please click here to see our term dates.

Medication in School

For health and safety reasons the school can only administer prescribed and in date medication.  If your child requires a dose of antibiotics etc during the school day, please obtain a permission form from the school office.  Please note that medication must not be placed in children's book bags or be given to children to take without adult supervision in school.  I appreciate your co-operation in this matter.

Christmas Lunch

As is tradition at St. Edward's, all children are invited to enjoy Christmas Lunch together.  If your child usually brings a packed lunch to school and they would like to have a Christmas Lunch, please inform the school office. The cost is £1.90 and the date of the lunch will be confirmed at a later stage. Caterlink, our school caterers, need to know the number of children having Christmas lunch by  25th November so please let the office know by then.  Unfortunately we will not be able to take any Christmas Lunch bookings after Friday 25th November.
