Friday 21st October - Issue 7

HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents, carers and children,

This week has been full of exciting experiences and opportunities for our children.  As you can see elsewhere in the newsletter we have had various trips, workshops and visitors to our school.  It is events such as these that enrich our children's education and reinforce their learning at school.  Thank you to our parent volunteers who have so generously given up their time to accompany our classes on trips. Without your help these outings would not be possible.

It was lovely to see so many parents attend their parent/teacher meetings this week.  If you have been unable to talk with your child's teacher regarding their progress thus far this year, please contact the school office to arrange an appropriate time to meet with the class teacher.

Our school Christmas Fair is always a great event on our school calendar and our hardworking PTA have already started planning the day.  You can find more details below about how you can help and there will be a meeting on the 2nd November at 9:00 am for anyone who is able to assist.  Volunteers and helpers are always appreciated.

I hope you all have a safe and happy half term break. School reopens on the 31st October and all children must please be dressed in full winter uniform.

Best wishes,

Miss Clare O'Connor

The Life Bus and Harold the Giraffe visit St. Edward's.

The Life Bus is a mobile classroom which educates children in making good decisions and informed choices in life. This week the Life Bus visited St. Edward's to help our pupils do just that. Harold the Giraffe taught our children skills that cannot always be taught in the classroom and covered topics such as taking care of myself, feelings and friendships. Hopefully this week pupils will have gained some useful knowledge to equip them make the right choices in life. Thank you to Sarah for making the sessions so much fun and informative too.  Thank you also to the parents who attended the parents' session yesterday.

'The classes have been a pleasure to teach!  They are so full of enthusiasm and information and so well behaved.'  Sarah from the Life Bus.

Class 10's Assembly

Class 10's assembly was full of interesting facts and information about Ancient Greece.  Our children have been studying this historical period and even had a workshop all about living in Ancient Greece. Thank you to class 10 for presenting a very informative and interesting assembly!  It was lovely to see so many parents attend!

Year 3 visit the Science Museum

On Tuesday Year 3 took a very exciting trip to the Science museum to support our learning about the body. We were able to explore the "Who am I?" gallery on a treasure hunt to find different objects for different jobs, as well as visiting the Space Gallery and the brand new Wonderlab. We are now inspired by Science!

Year 2 visit St Paul's Cathedral

Year 2 visited St Paul's Cathedral to learn a bit more about the Great Fire of London. We explored the areas where the fire took place and went to have a look at the Monument. We walked around St Paul's Cathedral. Those of us that were brave enough scaled the heights of the dome. It was very scary!

Freshwater Theatre Company

Our children always enjoy a visit from the Freshwater Theatre Company and this week year 1 and year 4 children took part in the interactive drama, dance and storytelling workshops.

The year 1 children (and teachers!) dressed up and spent the afternoon on  a quest to find kings, queens and castles. They learnt about Medieval castles and banquets and performed some great dancing!

The year 4 children learnt all about Ancient Greece by exploring daily Athenian life, trying out some Olympic sports and celebrating Ancient Greek achievements!

Fit For Sport

As our Fit For Sport team approach the end of our first half-term at St. Edward's, we would like to thank all the staff for making us feel very welcome and providing us with the platform to do our job to the best of our ability.  As a result our numbers for breakfast club and extended school club are consistently high and parents along, with their children, have bought into the Fit For Sport philosophy and are extremely happy with our service.  Our aim now is to continue to get even more of the children engaged into sports specific activities & continue to push our healthy eating structure whilst still helping and guiding them with their ongoing education/school work under our supervision.  We thank you for your support.
