Dear children, parents and carers,
I am delighted to be welcoming you to St. Edward’s Catholic Primary School. This is a very happy and harmonious community where parents, staff and governors work together to achieve the best for our children.
As Head Teacher I can tell you that this school is committed to providing the highest education to all our children. Our OFSTED inspection confirmed this when the Lead Inspector reported that ‘the school’s broad and balanced curriculum supports not just the pupil’s progress in reading, writing and mathematics but also their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development’. (OFSTED report October 2014) It is the broad and balanced curriculum that enables us to ensure that every child can achieve their full potential and that their time at St. Edward’s Catholic Primary school is a happy and memorable time for each child. I believe that children learn so much if they are taken out of the classroom to different places of interest in and around London and our children have been on many outings including the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, The London Museum, The Royal Albert Hall, The Liberal Jewish Synagogue, St. John’s Wood and later this term our Year 6 pupils are going to Sayer’s Croft in Surrey for a residential week of outdoor activities. It is these learning experiences that enrich the core curriculum and enable each child to see the worth of different subjects such as History, Geography, Music as well as Maths, English and Science.
St. Edward’s is a Catholic school under the trusteeship of the Sisters of Mercy, who founded the school in 1864. As a Catholic community the values of the Gospel and the teachings of Jesus Christ are at the heart of all we do. Religious Education takes a high priority in our curriculum and we use the programme called ‘Come and See’ to teach our Faith. We also help the children to learn about other Faiths and encourage respect for all Faiths and cultures.
I hope to get to know you and your children when you join our school and look forward to meeting you in the near future.
Miss Clare O'Connor
