Dear parents, carers and children,
This week we have experienced tragic events in Westminster. Threats to our city can be very upsetting, it is important to reassure our children that these events are rare. We are very fortunate to live a place so rich in history and diverse in culture - these are part of the reasons we all love living in London. I wish to assure you that the safety of our children is paramount, whether in school or on outings, I will be following all guidance given by our local authority and police.
At St. Edward's we promote healthy eating and so we encourage pupils who eat a packed lunch to enjoy a balanced diet. I would ask that you support the school in its policy by ensuring packed lunches include a healthy choice of food. Suggestions can be found on the NHS Live Well for Children website. Chocolates, sweets and sugary drinks are not permitted in packed lunches and we will be monitoring this. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of watching our year 1 and 2 choir children perform at Hammersmith City Hall. They were taking part in the Infant Singing Music Festival event organised by the Tri-Borough and I must say how delighted I was with their performance. Well done to all the children who represented St. Edward's - you have done us proud! Thank you to the parents who went along to encourage them and to Mr Clough for his hard work in rehearsing and preparing for the event.
On behalf of the whole school, I wish to extend our gratitude to the volunteers especially Kate from the Baker Street Quarter who organised the replanting of our school planters. Despite the very wet and cold weather, they planted beautiful greenery in our playground. I am certainly looking forward to seeing how the plants grow to transform our playground into a brighter space for us to enjoy! Click here to see photos of the event.
Lastly, I would like to draw your attention to the practical tips we have below in the newsletter providing advice on e-safety. We all rely on the internet and spend time online so please do have a look at the advice provided. Take the time to talk with your children about how they can protect themselves when using the internet and social media.
Wishing all our mothers and grandmothers a wonderful and happy Mother's Day!
Have a lovely weekend and don't forget to put your clocks forward by an hour on Sunday morning!

NOTICES AND REMINDERS
'World on a Plate' Day
Today we are celebrating 'World on a Plate' day! Thank you to everyone who donated delicious home made food and to all the children who dressed up so beautifully in their national costumes and colours. Keep a look out for more photos in next week's newsletter and on our website. I hope you enjoyed the day!
Reception visit the London Aquarium!
Reception's 'The World' topic has led them to learn about and explore different habitats including the Ocean. And so on Tuesday, they went on an adventure to the London Aquarium where they had the opportunity to further explore and develop their understanding of the Ocean habitat and life. They got to see many sea creatures, including sharks, rays and beautiful tropical fish.
Class 9's assembly - Art
Class 9 shared with us the wonderful art work that they have produced this term. They told us all they had learnt about working with watercolours and showed us how they had practised techniques used by famous artists. Well done class 9!
All year groups across the school enjoyed an exciting afternoon of science experiments! We had erupting lemon volcanoes, popcorn grabbing experiments, water walking, milky magic and lots of other fun activities to keep our aspiring scientists entertained! It was great to see our children so involved and enthusiastic about science! Thank you to Miss Gaebler for organising the afternoon.
HOWZART at Lord's Cricket Ground
This week year 4 children went to Lord's Cricket Ground. Children had the chance of exploring areas that are usually closed to the main public, like the Pavilion which is usually only accessable to members. They had a lovely guide who told them the story of cricket and some fun facts! After this, they went to a room to start some drawings for a art competition entitled: 'Women in Sports'. The children just loved it!
Year 5 visit Lord's
Our year 5 children were also fortunate to pay Lord's a visit this week to take part in Science based activities. They even had time to squeeze in a game of cricket. By the photos we can see they had a brilliant time!
March Mathletics Challenge
A huge congratulations to St. Edward's children for doing so well in the March Mathletics Challenge. The school moved from 95th position in October to 50th position in March. This was out of 330 schools. As a reward, children are reminded to come in to school in their PE kits on Tuesday for a special afternoon treat of sport. Thank you to teachers and parents for all their support with this worthwhile challenge. We look forward to seeing more amazing results next time round!
For the arrival of spring, our year 1 and 2 children enjoyed painting and decorating their own birdhouses in Art Club this week! I look forward to seeing them when they are all finished!
The lovely people at our local pizza place, Firebrand Pizza, are offering a 'Kids Eat Free' deal. Click here for more information on this offer and other deals.
Our year 5 and 4 girls' football team played in the QPR Football tournament on Tuesday. Well done girls on your brilliant performance!
